The List Builder Action Centre is the most flexible type. It starts from a saved list, lets you add extra columns (including custom fields), mark specific columns as editable for in-table editing, and optionally publish the result as a public or member-portal directory on your website. This guide covers the table setup; for the website publishing settings, see Website directories / member portal publishing.

Choosing a source list

  1. Choose the List Builder type.
  2. Select a Source List — you can pick from all lists in your account.
  3. Choose whether the list source is Live or Fixed.

Fixed vs live list source

  • Live list — membership updates automatically. Contacts are added or removed as they meet or stop meeting the list's criteria, so the Action Centre always reflects who currently qualifies.
  • Fixed list — membership is static. The set of contacts does not change unless the underlying list is edited, giving you a stable snapshot to work from.

Adding columns

Beyond the list's default columns, you can add extra columns drawn from all the fields you have access to — personal fields, contact fields and custom fields.

  1. Add a column from the available fields (personal, contact or custom).
  2. Set a Label for the column heading.
  3. (Optional) Tick Editable to allow that column to be edited directly in the table.

Repeat for each column you want to show. Editable columns let you update underlying field values without leaving the Action Centre — a fast way to maintain data at scale.

Available columns cover standard and personal fields (for example Title, Known as, Job title, Primary organisation, Gender, Date of birth, Age), contact fields (email, mobile, phone, website, contact details), record metadata such as Created by and Created on, and any of your custom fields — including Category Type. Marking a Category Type column Editable lets you set or change a record's category directly in the table; this works for both people and organisations.

Building the Action Centre

  1. Choose the List Builder type.
  2. Select the Source List and set it to Live or Fixed.
  3. Add your extra columns, setting a Label for each and ticking Editable where in-table editing should be allowed.
  4. (Optional) Enable Website Configuration to publish the list as a website/member-portal directory (see Website directories / member portal publishing).
  5. Set Permissions and click Save.

Working with the table

  • Use the standard table controls — search, filter, sort, pin/hide columns.
  • Edit values directly in any editable column.
  • Live lists automatically add and remove contacts as criteria-match changes; Fixed lists stay as they are.
  • Export to CSV at any time.

When to use which source

  • Use a Live list for ongoing operational views that should always reflect current membership (for example "all financial members" or "all volunteers due for renewal").
  • Use a Fixed list when you need a stable working set that will not shift underneath you (for example a specific event cohort or a one-off campaign group).
