List builder Action Centres can power public or member-only directories on your website or in the Login Portal. Once website configuration is switched on, SwiftFox publishes the list as a directory with configurable cards, a detail drawer and front-end filters. This guide covers those website settings; for the underlying list and column setup, see List Builder Action Centres.
Switch on website configuration first
The Action Centre builder has three steps — Basics, Columns and Permissions. The website settings are an extra step that only appears once you switch them on, so if you cannot see the step this guide describes, the toggle is still off.
- Create or edit an Action Centre whose type is List builder.
- In Basics, turn on Enable website configuration.
- A Web configuration step appears in the Action Centre builder — "Define how directory records are displayed and filtered on your website".
Public access
The Public access section has one toggle, Allow public access, which controls whether the directory can be seen by visitors who are not signed in.
Default directory view
Default directory view has a single toggle, Enable Card view fields. Turn it on to reveal the Card layout section below it — until you do, that section is not on screen.
Switching it on also shows the note "Card view must be enabled in Website settings for these fields to apply". The toggle here decides which fields the cards use; whether cards are shown at all is set on the website side.
Card layout
Card layout has three tabs, each taking a Column ID and a Display type:
- Title — the field used as each entry's heading.
- Card — the fields shown on the card in the directory listing.
- Drawer — the fields shown in the slide-out panel that opens when a visitor selects an entry.
Filters
The Filters section defines the filters visitors can apply to the directory themselves. Each filter takes a Column ID and an Assign group, which groups related filters together on the front end.
Action Centre ID for website backend
At the end of the step, Action Centre ID for website backend holds the identifier your website uses to pull this directory. Use Copy to copy it, then give it to whoever is configuring the website.
Publishing
- Turn on Enable website configuration in Basics.
- Add the columns you want available to the directory in Columns.
- Complete the Web configuration step.
- Set Permissions, then select Save.
The Action Centre builder discards your changes if you cancel out of it, so save before you leave.
If you see the Legacy list builder panel
An Action Centre built on an older list shows a Legacy list builder panel in place of the usual source list control, reading:
"This action uses the legacy list builder and is not fully editable. We recommend selecting a list created with the list builder to keep up to date with new features."
It offers a Select a list button. If you see this, you cannot follow the column instructions in this guide until the Action Centre points at a list created with the current list builder.
Live vs fixed source for directories
Because directories are built on a List builder Action Centre, the source-list choice matters:
- A Live source keeps the directory current — entries appear and disappear automatically as contacts meet or stop meeting the list criteria.
- A Fixed source publishes a stable set of entries that only changes when the underlying list is edited.
Notes
- Website configuration is only available on List builder Action Centres, and the settings only appear once Enable website configuration is switched on.
