Boundary selection on Maps

Boundary Selection lets you filter contacts geographically by selecting areas on a map. There are two field options: Select Areas on Map for predefined boundaries, and Draw Area on Map for your own custom polygons and circles. Results include contacts whose geocoded addresses fall inside the selected area(s).

Select Areas on Map (predefined boundaries)

Use this when you want to target established regions such as electorates or other boundary sets:

1. In Conditions, add a criterion and choose Select Areas on Map.
2. Choose a boundary set.
3. Click the regions on the map to select them.
4. Review your selections in the list shown alongside the map.
5. Save the selection.

Draw Area on Map (draw your own area)

Use this when no predefined boundary fits the area you need:

1. In Conditions, add a criterion and choose Draw Area on Map.
2. Optionally choose the address basis — Postal or Street address (or leave it blank).
3. Click New Selection.
4. Choose a drawing tool:
   • Draw Polygon — click on the map to place points and create a closed shape.
   • Draw Circle — set a centre and radius.
5. Save Selection.
6. Repeat to add multiple shapes if you need to cover several areas in one list.

How results are determined

• Results include contacts whose geocoded address falls inside the drawn or selected area(s).
• Only contacts with a geocoded address can be matched — contacts without one will not appear.
• A contact with multiple addresses may appear in more than one location-based list if more than one address falls inside a selected area.

Step-by-step: target contacts inside a custom geographic area

1. Go to the list builder Conditions stage.
2. Add a criterion and choose Draw Area on Map.
3. Optionally choose Postal or Street address as the basis.
4. Click New Selection, then choose Draw Polygon or Draw Circle and draw on the map.
5. Save Selection; repeat to add multiple shapes if needed.
6. Go to Results to review the matched contacts, then use Actions (export, generate documents, etc.).

Tips

• If a contact you expected is missing, check that they have a geocoded address — ungeocoded contacts are excluded from location filters.
• Use multiple shapes in one selection to capture non-contiguous areas without creating separate lists.
