Email campaign filtering lets you segment Contacts in the List Builder based on how they were targeted by, and how they interacted with, your email campaigns. Instead of relying on static fields, you build conditions from real campaign behaviour — who was sent, delivered, opened, clicked, bounced or unsubscribed — for precise follow-up, engagement analysis and suppression logic.
This is available in the List Builder as an Email campaigns criteria type, added like any other criterion in the Conditions stage.
What you can do
- Filter contacts based on a specific email campaign.
- Distinguish contacts who were explicitly targeted by a campaign from those who only received it indirectly (for example, when contacts share the same email address).
- Filter by detailed delivery and engagement statuses (Sent, Delivered, Opened, Clicked, Blocked, Bounced, Unsubscribed).
- Filter by the date a particular email status occurred.
- Combine email campaign filters with every other list criterion.
Email campaign filter options
When you add the Email campaigns criteria type, the following filters are available. You can use one or combine several in the same condition.
Email Name
Select a specific email campaign from a searchable dropdown of all sent campaigns. This returns the contacts who received that campaign.
- This includes contacts who received the email even if they were not the intended target — for example when several contacts share the same email address.
Is Target
Filters contacts based on whether they were an explicit target of the campaign.
- Set to true to include only contacts who were directly targeted by the campaign.
- Set to false to include contacts who received the email indirectly (such as shared-email scenarios).
- This distinction allows accurate segmentation where multiple contacts share one email address.
Status
Filter contacts by their email status for the campaign. Available statuses are:
- Sent
- Delivered
- Opened
- Clicked
- Blocked
- Bounced
- Unsubscribed
This lets you segment by delivery outcome or engagement level — for example everyone who opened, or everyone who bounced.
Status Date
Filter contacts based on when a specific status occurred — for example, contacts who unsubscribed within a defined date range.
- The date applies to the selected status, not to the campaign's send date.
Build a list from email campaign behaviour
- Open Lists from the left-hand menu.
- Click Create List to start a new list, or open an existing list to edit it.
- Go to the Conditions stage and add a new condition.
- Select Email campaigns as the criteria type.
- Choose one or more of the available filters:
- Email Name — the specific campaign.
- Is Target — true or false.
- Status — the delivery or engagement status.
- Status Date — when that status occurred.
- Combine these filters as required, and combine the condition with other list criteria using AND/OR logic.
- Open Results to preview the matching contacts, then Save the list.
Common use cases
- Find contacts who opened or clicked a specific campaign for targeted follow-up.
- Identify contacts who did not open an email and resend a reminder.
- Segment contacts who unsubscribed after a particular campaign.
- Exclude contacts who already engaged, to avoid duplicate messaging.
- Analyse campaign effectiveness by response type.
How it fits with the rest of the List Builder
- Email campaign filters integrate fully with the List Builder and can be combined with profile, event, form, subscription and financial criteria.
- Campaign behaviour data mirrors the statuses shown in email campaign reporting, so a list reflects what you see in the campaign report.
- This supports cleaner follow-up strategies, suppression logic and better engagement targeting.
FAQs
What is the difference between Email Name and Is Target?
Email Name includes anyone who received the email, while Is Target restricts results to contacts who were explicitly targeted by the campaign.
Why would someone receive an email but not be a target?
This can happen when multiple contacts share the same email address.
Can I filter by people who did not open an email?
Yes. Use the Status filter with the appropriate not-opened logic (for example, target the campaign and exclude the Opened status).
Does the date filter refer to the send date?
No. Status Date refers to when the selected status occurred, not when the campaign was sent.
Can I combine multiple email filters?
Yes. Email name, target status, engagement status and dates can all be combined, and combined with any other list criteria.
What is this best used for?
Follow-ups, suppression logic, engagement analysis, and targeted re-campaigns based on actual email behaviour.
