Organisations can be linked to each other — a national body and its state branches, a parent company and its subsidiaries, a head office and its sites. Those links live on the Related Organisations tab, which appears on Organisation profiles only.
This is separate from roles, which connect People to Organisations. Roles are covered in Roles and relationships (two-way People to Organisations).
Linking an organisation
- Open the Organisation and select the Related Organisations tab.
- Select Add. The Add related organisation panel opens.
- Start typing the name of the organisation you want to link, and choose it from the results. Each result shows the organisation's name and email address, which helps where two organisations share a name.
- Choose a Relation type — Parent or Child — describing what the organisation you just picked is to the one you have open. Relation type is optional: leave it blank to record a plain link with no hierarchy.
- Select Add relationship. The button stays unavailable until an organisation has been chosen.
The link is two-way, and the relation type is shown from each side's point of view. Add an organisation as a Child and the organisation you were on appears as its Parent — you record the relationship once and see it correctly from either profile.
Set a relation type wherever a hierarchy genuinely exists. Relation types are what let the Organisations Action Centre nest organisations beneath their parent, through as many levels as you have.
Editing and removing a link
Hover a linked organisation's card and select the ⋮ menu:
- Edit — change the recorded relationship.
- Remove — unlink the two organisations. Removal takes effect straight away, with no confirmation step, and clears the link from both profiles. Be certain before you select it.
The two views
Two controls at the top right of the tab switch how the links are shown.
- Cards — each linked organisation as a card, showing its relation type and contact details.
- Hierarchy — the same relationships drawn as a chart, with the organisation you have open as the top node and its children below, each tagged with its relation type. A control on the parent node collapses and expands its children and shows how many there are. Use zoom in, zoom out, fit and full screen to move around a large structure, and the download control to save the chart as a PNG or an SVG for a report or a board pack.
Until an organisation is linked to anything, the tab shows No records.
Seeing the whole structure
Related organisations also drive the Organisations Action Centre: any organisation with a parent or a child gains an expand control beside its name in the left-hand list, and its children move under it rather than sitting separately at the top level, so each organisation appears exactly once.
