Portal access permissions & Umbraco sync

Portal Access Permissions is where you control which members can access which parts of your portal-enabled website. You build login groups using a built-in mini List Builder, sync those groups to Umbraco, and then use Umbraco to secure individual website pages against those groups. This lets you show different content to different segments of your membership.

How portal access works

• You define one or more login groups by setting criteria in a mini List Builder (the same style of audience-building used elsewhere in SwiftFox).
• Each group represents a segment of your contacts — for example, a particular membership tier or category.
• You sync membership groups so they become available in Umbraco, the CMS that powers the website.
• In Umbraco, you assign page-level permissions so only members of the synced groups can view protected pages.

Create a login group

1. Go to Settings → Features → Login Portal → Portal Access Permissions.
2. Click Add Login Group to open the mini List Builder.
3. Define the criteria that determine who belongs to the group.
4. Click Create to save the group.
5. Repeat for each group you need.

Sync login groups to Umbraco

1. On the Portal Access Permissions page, click Sync membership groups (top-right).
2. Wait for the sync to complete — the groups are published to Umbraco.
3. In Umbraco, open the relevant pages and assign page permissions to the synced groups so only those members can access them.

Maintain login groups

• Use Edit to change a group's criteria or name.
• Use Delete to remove a group that is no longer needed.
• Re-run Sync membership groups after making changes so Umbraco reflects the latest group definitions.

Managing Portal Access Permissions requires the Membership Portal permission in Settings → Users & access → User groups.

Notes & gaps to verify

• The specific criteria available in the mini List Builder for login groups should be confirmed against the live product.
• Whether changes to group membership re-sync automatically or require a manual Sync membership groups each time should be verified.
