Discounts let you create discount codes that reduce ticket prices on a ticketed event. A discount can apply a fixed rate or a percentage, be limited in how often it can be used, follow date rules, and apply to specific tickets. Discounts are managed from the Discounts section on the Tickets step of the event.

Creating a discount

When you create a discount, configure:

  • Enabled — whether the discount is active (on by default).
  • Discount Code — the code contacts enter.
  • Description (required) — a description of the discount.
  • Discount Type — Fixed rate or Percentage — with the Discount amount.
  • Single use or Usage limit — whether the code can be used once, or up to a set number of times.
  • Date range — when the code is valid: on, on or before, on or after, or on or between.
  • Apply discount to specific items — restrict the discount to chosen ticket types.
  • Financial settings — Item, Account, and tracking categories (from your Xero tracking categories, for example Location and Department). Tax rate and tax inclusive settings are inherited from each ticket the discount applies to, so they are not set on the discount itself.

The Discounts table

Created discounts appear in a table with these columns:

  • Created On — when the discount was created.
  • Description — the discount description.
  • Discount Code — the code.
  • Discount Type — fixed rate or percentage.
  • Amount — the discount value.
  • Usage — how many times it has been used.
  • Enabled — whether the discount is active.
  • Single use — whether the code can be used only once.

Managing discounts

From each discount's ⋯ menu in the table you can:

  • View the discount details.
  • Edit the discount.
  • Disable the discount to stop it being used — available directly from the menu, so you no longer need to open and edit the code first.
  • Delete the discount to remove it entirely — handy for tidying up codes you no longer need, including ones copied across when an event is cloned.
  • View Code to see the discount code.

Creating a discount — step by step

  1. On the Tickets step, click New discount under Discounts.
  2. Enter a Discount Code and a Description, then choose the Discount Type (Fixed rate or Percentage) and the Discount amount.
  3. Choose Single use or set a Usage limit.
  4. Set a Date range (on / on or before / on or after / on or between).
  5. Use Apply discount to specific items to limit which tickets the code affects.
  6. Set the financial details (Item, Account, and tracking categories); tax rate and tax inclusive are inherited from the ticket.
  7. Save, then review the discount in the Discounts table — use the row's ⋯ menu for View / Edit / Disable / Delete or View Code as needed.
