Creating a map & adding a List Builder data layer

A map is made up of one or more data layers. A List Builder layer is sourced from List Builder criteria over your People or Organisation records. This guide covers creating a map and adding your first layer.

Start a new map

1. Go to Maps from the left menu to open the Maps landing page.
2. Click Add new data to your map at the top of the left-hand panel.

The Add data panel opens. It offers four sources:

• Add data from SwiftFox data library — built-in census and demographic datasets for Australia and New Zealand.
• Your saved Maps — maps that have been saved as data workspaces.
• Add external data — load your own KML, GeoJSON or CSV file.
• Add your data — build a layer from List Builder criteria.

Choose your data source

Under Add your data, click Select data from the SwiftFox List Builder. The layer configuration opens on the right, headed Select Your Data.

Configure the layer

1. In Create name of this data layer, give the layer a name so you can identify it in the layer panel. It is prefilled with New List Builder Layer.
2. Set Record Type to People or Organisation. A layer plots one type only.
3. Under Choose Point Color, pick the colour for this layer's markers. Choose it now — a layer's colour cannot be changed once the layer has been added.
4. Build your criteria in the sections underneath: Profile Details, Organisation Connections, Events, Forms, Surveys, Petitions, Government Data, Custom Fields, Posts, Location Lookup, and Subscriptions & Financial Data.
5. Check the live count at the bottom of the panel — for example, 264 record(s) have geographic coordinates. That is exactly how many markers this layer will produce.

Add the layer to the map

1. Click Add data layer to map, at the bottom right of the panel.
2. A dot appears for each qualifying record in your chosen colour, labelled with the record's name.
3. Click Done to close the panel and return to the map.

The layer now appears in Your Data Center, the panel on the left.

Adding more layers

To overlay more data, click Add new data to your map again and repeat the configuration for each new layer. You can mix List Builder layers, built-in datasets, uploaded files and saved maps on the same map. See Managing layers (show or hide, opacity, zoom to extent, delete).
