Each data layer on a map is configured independently, in the Select Your Data panel that opens when you choose Select data from the SwiftFox List Builder. Set the options below before adding the layer to the map.
Create name of this data layer
Name the layer so you can identify it in the Your Data Center panel on the left of the map. The field is prefilled with New List Builder Layer, so rename it — this matters as soon as you overlay more than one layer.
Record Type
Choose whether the layer plots People or Organisation records. A layer plots one type only, so to map both, create one layer for People and a second for Organisation.
Choose Point Color
Pick the colour used for this layer's markers on the map. Distinct colours per layer make overlapping datasets easy to tell apart.
Set the colour before you add the layer. A layer's colour cannot be changed afterwards — the swatch shown against the layer in Your Data Center is a legend, not a control. To recolour a layer, delete it and add it again with the colour you want.
List Builder criteria
Build the criteria that define which records the layer includes, using the sections below the colour picker:
- Profile Details
- Organisation Connections
- Events
- Forms, Surveys, Petitions
- Government Data
- Custom Fields
- Posts
- Location Lookup
- Subscriptions & Financial Data
Only records that match the criteria are considered for plotting.
Records with geographic coordinates
As you build criteria, a live count at the bottom of the panel shows how many matching records have geographic coordinates — for example, 264 record(s) have geographic coordinates. Key points:
- The count includes only geocoded records, that is, those with usable coordinates.
- It tells you in advance exactly how many markers this layer will produce.
- If it is lower than the number of records you expected to match, some of those records have no address or no usable coordinates and will not appear. See Geocoding requirements & checking geocode status.
Adding the configured layer
Once the name, record type, colour and criteria are set, click Add data layer to map at the bottom right of the panel.
