Text message permissions give you granular control over who can do what with text messaging in your account. These permissions are configured at the User Group level and separate bulk campaign activity from individual, profile-based text access — so you can, for example, let a team view conversations without being able to send.
These permissions sit in Settings, under the permissions for each User Group. In the permissions list they appear under the SMS heading.
What you can control
- Access to building and sending bulk SMS campaigns.
- Access to viewing individual text conversations on Contacts.
- Access to sending individual text messages on Contacts.
- Separation of viewing from sending for individual messages.
Configuring text permissions for a User Group
- Go to Settings.
- Under Users & access, open User groups.
- Select the User Group you want to edit to open its panel.
- On the Permissions tab, use the Filter Permissions search (type "SMS") or scroll to the SMS section.
- Set the three SMS permission toggles as required.
- Changes apply to everyone in that User Group.
The three SMS permissions
Under the SMS heading you'll find three toggles:
Send SMS campaigns
- Allows users to build and send bulk SMS campaigns to lists of Contacts.
- Turning it off prevents access to bulk SMS campaign creation and sending.
View SMS
- Allows users to view the text history on individual Contacts, including the back-and-forth conversation.
- Users with only this permission can view but not send.
Send SMS
- Allows users to send text messages from individual Contacts, including replying and starting new conversations.
- This permission also includes viewing individual conversations.
- Turning it off prevents users from sending individual text messages.
Context and relationships
- Text permissions are managed at the User Group level.
- Bulk SMS campaigns and individual text messages are controlled separately.
- Viewing individual messages does not automatically grant sending.
- The ability to send still depends on available credit in your account's Communications Wallet.
