Add-ons modify subscription pricing without changing the base plan. They come in two types — discounts and surcharges — and are managed under Settings → Finance & usage → Plan add-ons. Once an add-on is live, you make it available to a plan by linking it (either here or in the plan's add-ons section — see Subscription plans — categories & fees).
Access
The Plan add-ons section appears under Settings → Finance & usage once Manage financial plans is enabled on the user's User Group.
Discounts
Create a discount
- Select Add Item.
- Choose Discount.
- Configure:
- Name
- Interval
- Discount type — Fixed amount or Percentage
- Discount value
- Restrict usage — how many times the discount can be applied per subscription
- Link plans — which plans the discount is available to
- Save.
Restrict usage
Restricting usage is used for limited-time discounts — for example a 3-month onboarding discount or a 12-interval promotional rate. Once the limit is reached, the discount is automatically removed from the subscription.
Surcharges
Create a surcharge
- Select Add Item.
- Choose Surcharge.
- Configure:
- Name
- Interval
- Surcharge amount
- Restrict usage — how many times the surcharge can be applied
- Link plans
- Save.
Common use case: joining fees
To create a one-off joining fee:
- Set the surcharge amount.
- Restrict usage to 1.
The surcharge is then automatically removed after the first charge.
How add-ons relate to plans & subscriptions
- An add-on must be live before it can be linked to a plan.
- Linking a plan here makes the add-on selectable when a subscription is created (see Subscriptions: creating & configuring).
- Add-ons modify pricing without altering the base plan or its fees.
- Add-ons follow the plan's proration. Where a plan's fee has a Pro-rate interval set, a discount or surcharge attached to it is prorated in the same proportion as the base fee — so a member joining part-way through a period is charged a part-period add-on rather than the full amount. Add-ons have no proration setting of their own, and deliberately so: they take the plan's. Note that pro rata applies to Common plans only; on Anniversary plans the period starts on the member's join date, so neither the fee nor its add-ons are prorated. See Subscription plans — categories & fees for where the Pro-rate interval is set.
- Restricted add-ons (limited discounts, joining-fee surcharges) drop off automatically once their usage limit is reached.
FAQs
What's the difference between a discount and a surcharge? A discount reduces the charge (fixed or percentage); a surcharge adds to it (for example a joining fee).
How do I make a one-off joining fee? Create a surcharge and restrict its usage to 1, so it is removed after the first charge.
Why isn't my add-on showing on a plan? The add-on must be live, and the plan must be linked to it. Check the link in either the add-on or the plan's add-ons section.
How do I run a limited-time discount? Set the discount and use Restrict usage (for example 3 or 12 intervals); it is removed automatically once the limit is reached.
