When you add a criterion in the Conditions stage, you first choose a Field from one of the field menus below, then an operator, then a value. The operators available depend on the field type (see Notes on operators at the end).
Profile Details
Filter on the core attributes of a contact. Fields include, for example: Title, First name, Last name, Known as, Suffix, Created on, Date of birth, Age, Birthday, Is Guest User, Category, Type and Languages. The exact fields available depend on your account configuration.
Custom Fields
Filter on your own custom fields. The menu supports both your custom field sections and individual fields, so you can segment on any data you have configured for People or Organisations.
Tree Select fields appear here alongside your other custom fields. Their options are listed by full path — for example Queensland > Brisbane > West End — so you can filter on any tier of the hierarchy. Selecting a node matches only that node: filtering on Queensland will not return records saved against Queensland > Brisbane > West End. To capture a whole branch, select the parent and each child you want included.
Location Lookup
Filter on address attributes. People and Organisation location criteria offer the full set of location filters: Address Type, Is Primary Address, Street Name, Street Number, Locality / Suburb, Postcode, Target Area, Federal Electorates (and New Boundaries), LGAs, Metro Regions, State Electorates (and New Boundaries), and State Upper House Electorates. Location filtering uses geocoded addresses — only contacts with a geocoded address are evaluated. A contact with multiple addresses may match multiple location criteria.
Select Areas on Map
Filter contacts geographically by selecting predefined boundaries (for example electorates) on a map. See Boundary Selection on Maps.
Draw Area on Map
Filter contacts geographically by drawing your own custom polygons or circles on a map. See Boundary Selection on Maps.
Organisation Connections
Filter contacts by their relationship to an organisation, including: Organisation, Organisation name, Current relationship, Position, Category type, Industries and Regions.
Email campaigns
Filter contacts by how they were targeted by, and how they interacted with, your email campaigns — sent, delivered, opened, clicked, bounced, unsubscribed and more. See Filtering lists by email campaign behaviour.
Existing Lists
Filter contacts by their membership in another list — include, exclude, or find contacts who are in none of the selected lists. See Filtering lists using existing lists.
Forms, Surveys & Petitions
Build lists based on who has submitted your forms, surveys and petitions, and how they answered. The menu offers:
- Select Form — pick a form from those you can access; the list returns everyone who submitted it.
- Response Date — filter by when the form was submitted, using the standard date operators.
- Question Answered — pick a form, then a question on that form, then the answer to match. Select-type questions offer their available options; date questions use the plus/minus date filtering. Use this to segment by how people answered a specific question.
Posts
Build lists based on contacts' posts. The menu offers:
- Created date — the date the post was created.
- Created by — the user who created the post.
- Interaction date — the date set on the post itself, which can be back-dated and differ from the created date.
- Tags — filter by post tag or hashtag.
Any post custom fields you have configured also appear in this menu automatically, so you can segment on your own post data as well.
Events
Filter by Event name combined with RSVP status (for example Yes / No). Combine both in one rule with And logic to build invitee, attendee or non-response lists.
Stakeholder Leader
Where available in your account, filter on Stakeholder Leader fields.
Goals
Where available in your account, filter on Goals fields.
Subscriptions
Filter on membership and recurring payment details, including: Payment method, Status, Plan, Interval, Credit card expiry, Paid-through date, Failed attempts, Renewal and Category.
Receipts
Filter on payment records. The menu offers: Payment Method, Status, Total Amount, Created On, Effective Date, Description, Line Item Amount, Line Item Comment, Line Item Subscription Category, Line Item Type, Receipt ID, Reconciled Status, Is adjustment and Direction.
Direction filters on whether a receipt is Inbound or Outbound. Use it with include or exclude to build a list of people who have a receipt in one direction only, and combine it with the other Receipts conditions in the same rule to narrow further — for example everyone with an inbound receipt above a given amount in a date range.
Invoices
Filter on invoices raised against a contact, so you can build a list of people or organisations who have an invoice matching the criteria you set. The menu offers four fields:
- Status — the invoice status. Use include or exclude with any of Approved, Deleted, Draft, Paid, Partially Paid, Pending Approval and Voided.
- Amount Due — the outstanding balance on the invoice, using the standard numeric operators, so you can match invoices due above, below or within a given amount.
- Date — the date the invoice was issued, using the standard date operators.
- Due Date — the date the invoice falls due, using the standard date operators. Use it to find contacts with upcoming due dates.
Invoice conditions placed in the same rule are evaluated against a single invoice: the contact matches only where one invoice satisfies every invoice condition in that rule. For example Status include Approved together with Amount Due greater than 500 in one rule returns contacts who have a single approved invoice with more than $500 outstanding — not contacts who have an approved invoice and, separately, a different invoice over $500. To match conditions across different invoices, put them in separate rules.
Calls & Visits
Build lists from your contacts' call and visit history. The menu offers:
- Contact Date — when the contact took place.
- Contact Type — whether it was a call or a visit.
- Contact Outcome — the recorded result (for example answered, left voicemail, successful or unsuccessful).
- Contacted Successfully — true or false, whether contact was made successfully.
- Contacted By — the user who made the call or visit.
Combine these to segment people by the interactions they have had with you — for example everyone successfully contacted by a particular user within a date range.
Notes on operators
The operators shown adapt to the field you select:
- Text and list fields (e.g. Category, Status, Languages): include, exclude, is empty.
- Tree Select fields: include, exclude, is empty, is not empty. Matching is on the exact option selected, not on its descendants.
- Numeric fields (e.g. Age, Total amount, Failed attempts): is, less than or equal, greater than or equal, greater than, less than, is empty.
- Date fields (e.g. Created on, Paid-through date, Effective date): date comparison operators (for example is before / is after / is on) plus is empty.
Wherever is empty is available, is not empty is offered alongside it — use it to build a list of records that have any value in a field.
