Once a layer is added, the map plots your records and lets you explore them by zooming, panning and clicking markers.
Markers
The map places a dot (marker) for each qualifying record at its geocoded location, in the layer's chosen colour. Each marker is labelled with the record's name beside the dot, so you can read who is where without clicking.
Clusters
Where many records sit close together, the map groups them into a cluster — a single larger filled circle:
- Larger circles mean more records in that area; smaller circles mean fewer.
- Clusters do not show a count, and clicking one does nothing. Zoom in to break a cluster apart into individual markers.
- Clustering keeps dense areas readable instead of stacking markers on top of one another.
Zoom and pan
- Use the zoom in and zoom out buttons at the top right of the map, or scroll on the map itself.
- Zoom in to spread clustered markers out into individual points.
- Zoom out to see the broader distribution and compare areas.
- Drag the map to pan around and focus on a region.
- To jump straight to a layer's data, expand the layer in Your Data Center and click Zoom To Extents.
Marker pop-ups
Click a marker to open its summary card. The card is headed with the record type and shows the record's name, its address, and the address type (for example, Street Address). Close the card with the × at its top right.
Opening the full profile
At the bottom of the card is the link Click here to view the profile of this record in a new window. Use it to open the record's full profile — handy for reviewing or acting on a contact you spotted on the map. As the label says, the profile opens in a new window, so your map stays as you left it.
If a marker won't open
If you have a census or demographic dataset on the map, its shaded areas sit over your markers and take the click, so you get the area's pop-up instead of the marker's card. Turn the dataset layer off with its toggle in Your Data Center, click the marker, then turn the dataset back on.
Clicking a dataset area
Clicking a shaded area from a built-in dataset opens a pop-up showing that area's values — the measure being displayed, the area's code, and the figure for that area. The area's boundary is outlined on the map while the pop-up is open, so you can see exactly which area the numbers belong to.
