Campaigner Website Enablement - Publish news items
Things have changed
00:00:00:14 - 00:00:23:42
Now let's look at how to create and publish news items on your website. This is a great way to keep your site fresh and share campaign updates, media releases, and announcements with your supporters. News items are managed through a dedicated news page in your content tree. You can see it listed alongside your other pages like About, Electorate and Volunteer.
00:00:23:46 - 00:00:41:38
The news page acts as a container for all your individual news items, which sit inside it as child pages. To create a new news item, you can either create a blank item from the create button, or you can copy one of the existing pages as a template to keep the same look.
00:00:41:42 - 00:00:57:18
To copy a page, select one of the existing items, then select copy. Select the news page you want this to be copied to and submit. You'll see that it's greyed out. This indicates that it has not yet been published so it isn't live on your site.
00:00:57:22 - 00:01:13:44
Select the name to open it and then give your news item a new name. This will be the headline that appears on your website. Make sure to add a thumbnail image for the news item. This is what will appear when the item is displayed in a news feed or a listing on your website.
00:01:13:48 - 00:01:32:06
A good thumbnail makes a big difference in how professional and engaging your new section looks. You can also assign tags to your news items. Tags are useful for categorising your content. For example, you might tag items as campaign updates, media releases, or community news.
00:01:32:18 - 00:01:57:40
These tags become especially useful when filtering news, as we'll see in a moment. Once you're happy with your content, select Save and Publish and the news item will be live on your website. Now to display your news items on other pages of your website, we use the News feed block This is a content block that you can add to any page in your site, and it displays your news items in a carousel format.
00:01:57:48 - 00:02:19:46
On the front end, the news feed shows your news items as cards that visitors can scroll through using navigation arrows. Each card displays the items, thumbnail, headline, and a preview of the content, with a smooth fade out effect at the edges of the carousel. To configure the News Feed block, add it to your pages grid and open its settings.
00:02:20:08 - 00:02:44:28
The key setting is selecting your news page. This tells the block where to pull the news items from. From there, you can set the maximum number of items to display. Toggle whether to show or hide thumbnails and set the fade out gradient colour which you want to match to your pages background colour for a seamless look. You can also choose whether to show or hide the Read more link on each item.
00:02:44:32 - 00:03:08:10
The newsfeed block also includes powerful filtering and sorting options. You can filter by tags or keywords. Set a date, range or even filter by rating, and you can sort your news items by newest, first, oldest first, or by highest or lowest ratings. This means you can place multiple newsfeed blocks on different pages, each filter to show different types of content.
00:03:08:20 - 00:03:19:02
For example, one showing only campaign updates on your home page and another showing media releases on a dedicated press page, all pulling from the same news page.
